Whether you are in the process of proposing, designing, or executing a digital project for research and/or instruction, Washington University offers a number of training opportunities that relate to your project.

 

Training on Planning and Metadata

Construction and Pedagogical Use of Digital Archives, May 22-June 30, 2006
A workshop designed instruct graduate students to use the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) and XML metadata standards to increase access to Washington University's archival material for academic research and instruction, led by Professor Joe Lowenstein of Washington University and Professor David Gants of the University of New Brunswick.

School of Engineering and Applied Science: Center for the Application of Information Technology (CAIT)
In addition to providing training on software, CAIT offers training on XML, Usability, Testing, Design Architecture, and Project Management.

 

Training on Equipment

ARC Library Technology Center at the Olin Library
The Arc offers access and individual training on equipment available for digitizing images, such as a VHS to DVD deck and scanners with OCR capabilities.

Humanities Digital Workshop (HDW)
HDW provides access to computer workstations, scanners with OCR capabilities, large format scanners, cameras, VHS to DVD and VHS to Mini DVD audio decks, microphones, a sound booth, and sound/video editing equipment and software. HDW along with DLS also provides support for the development of faculty digital projects.

 

Training on Software and Systems

ARC Library Technology Center at the Olin Library
The Arc regularly offers workshops and individual training on PC and Mac software that include Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe Photoshop, iPhoto, iMovie, and other software packages.

Department of Art History and Archaeology: Technology Initiatives and Resources
Provides individual training to members of the department on digital imaging and the content management system LUNA Insight.

GIS Online Tutorials
Through Washington University's ESRI site license, users have access to various Geographic Information System (GIS) tools, a geographic information system that allows users to analyze and present geographic data. Faculty, staff and students can sign-up for online GIS tutorials.

ITeach Symposium
A day long workshop for faculty and staff offered biannually, on teaching with technology, organized by the Teaching Center, University Libraries and Arts & Sciences Teaching Lab.

School of Engineering and Applied Science: Center for the Application of Information Technology (CAIT)
CAIT provides workshops year-round for CAIT members and selected Washington University students on PHP, Unix, Linux, Java, Macromedia, Web development, and many other technical proficiencies.

Summer Graduate Workshops 2006
A ten-hour workshop that introduces Washington University faculty, staff, and graduate teaching assistants on the development and delivery of course related content, such as Telesis, Wikis, Blogs and PowerPoint, for teaching purposes.

The Teaching Center
A facility that provides faculty and staff with year-round training on multi-media instruction, links to online tutorials, and information on technology-integrated classroom design and resources.
